Throughout this semester, I have challenged myself by including technology elements in my English learning. For example, by using this website, I have been able to blog on The Kite Runner, by Khalid Hosseini and enhance my understanding of it. By taking this level of English, I explored my options of analyzing certain novels other than writing a typical essay. I have completed both seminar and NGO presentations, as well as blogs and posters on novels and Shakespearean play that I have read, making my understanding on human rights more clear.
While reading my independent novel, The Book of Negroes by Lawrence Hill, I have specifically analyzed the human rights which have been violated and explored international NGOs which can provide assistance. Therefore, while writing my essay for this novel, I referred back to my NGO assignment to help me further analyze and establish main points on how life in servitude delivered excruciating pain for Aminata Diallo, being the protagonist of this novel. The feedback given to me regarding my NGO presentation made me want to exert effort to enhance it and make it a useful source for my final essay. I improved my presentation by fixing any grammatical errors and adding more information on how the selected NGO can provide beneficial assistance towards the human rights violated.
Based on the feedback given to me, I modified and edited The Kite Runner blogs. For example, I revised the grammar and spelling errors found on my blogs making it more accurate and easy to read. Personally, it was easy to revisit the work I uploaded on my website since it is readily available at school and at home. By blogging, I became creative and included media resources such as YouTube videos to provide a more visual aspect of my topic. Also, by blogging about selected topics, my understanding of this novel improved since information on key concepts prominent throughout Hosseini's novel were researched. For example, one of the concepts in this novel includes scapegoating and to understand it more I blogged about the meaning and historical significance of such an idea. Evidently, Amir uses this concept of Scapegoating at a smaller scale towards Hassan. Similarly, during World War II, the Nazis also used Scapegoating as a way to rationalize their mistreatment towards the Jewish people. Therefore, by exploring ideas outside of the novel I became more aware of issues happening around the world currently and the violation of fundamental human rights individuals are facing on an international scale.
In the end, I personally found the technology learning experience to be very beneficial throughout this course. Analyzing novels such as The Kite Runner and The Book of Negroes through technology has made English class more enjoyable and has benefited my understanding. Feedback on my work has helped me edit my assignments thoroughly and to prepare accurate information to use for major essays or studying for the exam. English this semester was amazing!
